Historical Museum of Southern Florida. (2006). “Calypso: a world music”, , retrieved on September 5, 2006.
This website accompanies the exhibit, and is very useful in learning about calypso itself and the exhibit. Background information is given on the style, the people involved, and the historical context of the music. There are a lot of images to accompany the text, and there are also audio examples and record images. The extensive list of resources will form the basis for the collection development of the NMBCC surrounding the exhibit.
By following the development of calypso from Trinidad into the international market (as can be seen by the number of continents linked on the map), a visitor to this site, and the exhibit itself, can see how the musical style influenced others, and grew and changed each place it went. There is heavy discussion as well about the presence of calypso today around the world, as well as popular calypso music that made the world listen.
As this site is linked to the exhibit, there is a listing of venues at which the exhibit will appear. Indiana University is listed as the next recipient. I will also be looking into the places that have sponsored the exhibit recently to see what they have done to surround the exhibit with events.
