“Everyone loves a celebration…special events get customers in the door and increases public awareness of your library.”
Specifically on planning special events, this article outlines a “blueprint for success”, beginning with strategies. For instance, it is necessary to ensure that the event is worthy of the work that will go into it. The event must also serve the purpsoe it is intended to. Everyone involved must back it fully and be willing to work for the goal. The visitors must be determined so thatthe event is geared appropriately. Planning in advance is key. Determine the appropriate evaluation process f the event to determine its success. And, probably most importantly, collaborate with others who have done similar projects to get a greater perspective of a good event!
The logistics of the event are also very important, including the budget, space, setup, and services. Ideas of what to consider are provided, but not in much detail.
The publicity of the event is necessary, because if no one knows about it, who will come? And the evaluation is key as it will determine if everything went over well and if the visitors benefited. This also will give an idea of whether or not to plan a similar event in the future, and how to improve on the planning.
